Yesterday the Supreme Court handed down its decision in Louisiana v. Calais, striking down the Voting Rights Act's mandate that states draw congressional districts based on racial demographics.
The so-called "majority-minority" district system has long been the Democrats' most reliable tool for manufacturing House seats by corralling Black and Hispanic voters into artificially crafted geographic pens.
Democrats are in full meltdown mode, screaming "racism" at a ruling that eliminates the most nakedly racist redistricting scheme in American politics. The irony is lost on them: they built their House majority on the premise that minority voters must be segregated into designated districts to be politically relevant. That is racism, not its remedy.
Republicans are moving fast. States across the country are preparing to redraw congressional maps without the artificial constraints that distorted their delegations for decades. The result could be a structural realignment of House representation that reflects actual voting patterns rather than racial engineering.
Today we’ll walk through the decision, the Democrat hysteria, and what aggressive Republican redistricting means for the balance of power in Washington.
