Former federal prosecutor Bill Shipley — who handled over 90 January 6 cases — has written a stunning insider account of how the Department of Justice was systematically transformed from a politically balanced institution into a progressive stronghold over the course of 16 years under the Obama and Biden administrations.
Shipley describes a deliberate strategy: force out experienced conservative prosecutors nearing retirement, replace them with young progressive hires from organizations like the ACLU, Sierra Club, and NAACP, and repeat across all 94 U.S. Attorney's Offices nationwide. The result is a DOJ that today is almost entirely populated by liberal prosecutors — and virtually devoid of the experienced, battle-tested conservative trial attorneys needed to handle complex, long-running investigations like the "Grand Conspiracy" case now underway in Florida.
That talent vacuum is precisely why the Trump administration had to go outside the DOJ entirely and bring in 81-year-old former D.C. U.S. Attorney Joe diGenova as Special Counsel. Today we break down Shipley's article in full, what it means for the DOJ going forward, and whether the damage done over 16 years can realistically be reversed.
