WE DID IT! New: Annual memberships! Expectations moving forward.
Hey folks,
First, I can’t tell you all how humbling it is to get such a tremendous and heartfelt response from all of you who answered the call to support our modest little Locals channel and break us free of the limitations of the bottom-tier of this platform.

Second, YOU DID IT! We’ve broken through the 50-supporter barrier! We’re now at the middle-tier of Locals, what the platform calls “Starter” tier. That has two immediate implications.
1. We now have triple the upload allowance than previously (15GB instead of 5GB, which we’d already exhausted). So, that should be plenty of headroom for content upload moving forward.
2. We can now offer ANNUAL MEMBERSHIPS, which allows us to discount the membership cost. I’ve just set that up, so for any of you who would care to switch over that should now be an option. In effect the annual saves you two-months membership cost, so it’s $50 for the year instead of $60 ($5 x 12 months).
Expectations Moving Forward
I also wanted to set expectations moving forward, because the last few weeks have been an exceptional period in terms of how Law of Self Defense provides access to content.
When we’re covering exceptionally high-profile trials like Rittenhouse and the Arbery case, where there is substantial public interest, we try to find sponsors that will enable us to provide that coverage on an open-access basis. For both of those trials our coverage was sponsored by Legal Insurrection (legalinsurrection.com) and CCW Safe (lawofselfdefense.com/ccwsafe)—and great thanks to both of them, this coverage would have been impossible without their support.
This kind of open access to our content is NOT the norm, however. In the normal course of business, we restrict almost all our content to paying members—and, now, also Locals supporters. And now that the trials are over, we’ll be returning to that normal course of business.
That means that the large majority of content we post to Locals moving forward will be locked down for supporters. Sorry, folks, but the ‘free milk’ is over, at least until we are sponsored to cover some future high-profile trial.
The exceptions to this general “members-only access” will be the once-a-week “LOSD News/Q&A Show” that has always been our one piece of weekly open-access content, and stuff that would otherwise be open-access by other means, such as interviews on other people’s podcasts, radio shows, TV shows, etc.
So, those of you who have come on board as supporters should know that this status will entitle you to access all of our content, including the large majority of our content that will not be available to the general public on an open-access basis.
I trust you find the juice to be worth the squeeze—but I expect you will, as we only very rarely lose a member or supporter.
